Regina Maria Castillo has started her role as representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Uzbekistan, the UNICEF press service said.

Prior to this assignment, Regina Maria Castillo served as UNICEF representative in Croatia and Paraguay.

Before joining UNICEF in 2016, she worked as UNAIDS (Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS) country director for Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru; chief of Private Sector Partnerships for UNAIDS in Switzerland; and economic and social affairs officer at the Executive Office of the United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan in the United States.

Regina Maria Castillo studied economics and international relations at Western Washington University in Washington State, United States, and holds a master’s degree in government and international affairs from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, US.

The previous UNICEF representative in Uzbekistan Munir Mammadzade concluded his mission at the end of 2023. Gazeta.uz published an interview (in Russian) with him before he departed for Ukraine.
