President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a UN delegation headed by UN deputy secretary general and executive director Sima Sami Bahous on 14 May, as reported by the press service of the head of state.

The UN delegation is visiting the country as part of the Asian Women’s Forum program, which recently was held in Samarkand.

During the meeting, both sides discussed development of the constructive partnership between Uzbekistan and UN Women, with support expressed for the establishment of a UN Women office in Uzbekistan.

The report notes Uzbekistan’s accession to all major international conventions regarding protection of rights and promotion of women’s interests, as well as active engagement in UN Commission’s operation.

Both parties highly appreciated the fruitful outcomes of the Asian Women’s Forum, highlighting the significance of its transformation into a permanent platform for dialogue on the expansion of women’s rights in the Asian region.

Emphasis was placed on the necessity of adopting a medium-term bilateral Cooperation Program, encompassing specific projects and activities, including regional collaborations.
