Current UK Foreign Secretary and former Prime Minister Lord David Cameron will visit Uzbekistan on April 23, the press service of the UK embassy in Tashkent has informed Gazeta.uz.

Lord Cameron will meet the Minister of Foreign Affairs Bakhtiyor Saidov. During his meeting the Foreign Secretary will “drive forward ever-closer partnerships cooperation on key issues, including regional security, greater engagement on education, climate, bilateral trade, and business-to-business links”.

Lord Cameron’s upcoming visit to Tashkent is a part of his state visits to Mongolia and all five Central Asian countries. The aim of these visits is to “promote prosperity, education, and independence in the region”.

The last UK Foreign Secretary to visit Uzbekistan was Malcolm Rifkind in February 1997.
