On Wednesday, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan visited Gulbozor mahalla in Tashkentt’s Shaikhontokhur district, where a new tourist street has been opened, as reported by the press service of the head of state.

Situated in the city’s historic area near the Chorsu market, mahalla specializes in offering tourist services, the press service shared. It accommodates 2,670 residents.

Additional facilities and infrastructure have been introduced on the street and within the mahalla, while preserving their ancient aesthetics. Underground communication networks have been installed, along with the implementation of a “Safe Neighborhood” system.

The historical gates at the street entrance have been restored, complemented by the construction of a spacious aiwan with intricately carved columns, alongside a water reservoir. Workshops for embroidery and crafts, bakeries, restaurants serving national cuisine, and jewelry stores have been established. Moreover, exhibitions such as “History of Bread” and “Journey to Ancient Tashkent” have been inaugurated, with the construction of a three-star hotel underway.

The street is set to be integrated into the “tourist circle” being developed in the Shaykhontokhur district, offering increased income opportunities for local residents engaged primarily in trade, handicrafts, and services.

During the visit, the president joined in the preparation of sumalyak and extended Ramadan greetings to the residents.

He directed those in charge to further develop the “tourist circle” initiative and enhance employment prospects within the tourism sector.

“Modern complexes are everywhere. But we can attract foreign tourists with the great history of our country. Therefore, it is necessary to turn this place into a working round-the-clock tourist center, increase the number of ethnographic exhibits, demonstrate our national values, and organize various festivals,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

The establishment of the “tourist circle”, spanning 20.7 kilometers in length, was planned through a presidential decree issued in June of last year.
