A delegation of Uzbekistan, headed by Tanzila Narbayeva, chairperson of the Senate of Oliy Majlis, chairperson of the Republican Commission on Enhancing the Role of Women in Society, Gender Equality and Family, is participating in the 68th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York City (CSW68), as reported by the press service of the upper house of parliament.

Over the two-week event, UN representatives and civil society members will discuss the implementation of the Beijing Declaration, adopted by the Fourth World Conference on Women in September 1995.

The session focuses on “accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective”.

The Republican Commission on Enhancing the Role of Women in Society, Gender Equality and Family functions as a working body of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and is engaged in the implementation of international standards for the protection and promotion of women’s rights.

As part of the visit of Uzbekistan’s delegation to the United States, bilateral meetings are scheduled with heads of UN agencies, presidents, heads of government and ministries from various states.
