Head of State Security Service of Uzbekistan Abdusalom Azizov met with acting Defense Minister of Afghanistan Mohammad Yaqoob during his visit to Afghanistan, the press service of the Afghan Defense Ministry reported.
The two parties discussed “border matters, strengthening bilateral and economic relations and transit cooperation.”
“We have reinforced the country’s borders over the past year and are committed to strengthen them further,” Mohammad Yaqoob noted.
The acting Defense Ministry head of Afghanistan assured Abdusalom Azizov of the readiness of Afghan defense and security forces to offer any cooperation and support for development projects across all sectors.
In late October, a major delegation from Uzbekistan, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev and five ministers, visited Afghanistan. The sides expressed their intention to increase trade between the countries to $3 billion a year. Additionally, the Taliban requested a reduction in fees for the transit of Afghan goods through Uzbekistan.
