President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev familiarized himself with the progress of construction of the Tashkent Olympic city on November 18, the press service of the head of state reported.
In 2025, Uzbekistan will host the IV Asian Youth Games and Asian Youth Para Games. The Olympic city under construction will provide conditions for practicing all sports included in the competition programs. The area of the complex is 100 hectares. The main objects are a stadium accommodating 10 thousand seats and 2000 seats sized velodrome, water sports palace, complexes of individual and team sports.
Further, the territory is planned to be expanded with a four-story administrative building, 15 outdoor sports grounds, jogging paths and parks. Overall, green areas will take 54% of the city’s territory. Artificial lakes are planned to be set up on 37 hectares, the report reads.
The project is realized jointly with the Chinese company CAMC Engineering, which has experience in construction of sports facilities in 70 countries of the world. It was awarded the contract for the realization of the project worth 289 million dollars in November last year.
On November 9, 2022, the President laid the foundation stone of the Olympic city. Today, the foundations of the main buildings have been completed and the structures of five complexes have been installed. About 1,000 workers and engineers along with special equipment are involved in the construction.
The President issued orders on introducing foreign experience in the operation of the campus, taking security measures and territorial enhancement.
“After the Asian Games, the (sports) complexes should not be empty, but has to serve our people. Along with training, it is imperative to create here a hub for sports education, science and medicine. That is, this place will be a scientific, practical, learning and training center of our country,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev asserted.
In the future, the Ministry of Youth Policy and Sports, sports federations, the State Sports Academy of Uzbekistan (unofficial translation) and other agencies will be located here. Facilities will be available for citizens to practice sports.
“In the future, children sports schools should be connected to this city. This will serve as a bridge from mass sports to professional,” the president said.
The city will also host the Asian Youth Para Games; therefore sectors adapted to the needs of persons with disabilities, the press service added.
According to the president’s recommendation, the sports complex is planned to utilize renewable energy. Solar panels with an annual capacity of 10 MW will be installed on an area of 56 thousand square meters.
Information about the projects launched this year in accordance with Tashkent’s investment program presented in 2022 is also presented during the visit. It was noted that in the past period of this year, 360 projects were implemented in the sphere of production and services, a total of 20 thousand jobs were created. Additionally, a new generation industrial zone is planned to be established on the area of 650 hectares in Yangikhayot district.
