Secretary general of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Rashid Alimov will stay in Uzbekistan from 29 November to 5 December as head of the SCO mission for monitoring presidential elections in Uzbekistan.

The mission consists of representatives of the legislative, executive and electoral authorities of the SCO member states, as well as officials of the SCO secretariat (20 persons in total). The observers intend to visit the greatest number possible of polling stations in all electoral districts of Uzbekistan.

For nearly one month to date, the mission members have analysed the legislation regulating the electoral process in Uzbekistan, monitored media for just and independent coverage of election campaign, as well as provision of necessary information for voters.
