President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated president of Belarus Alexandr Lukashenko on his victory in the 26 January election during a phone call on Monday, the press service of the president of Uzbekistan said.

“The head of our state emphasized that the high voter turnout and election results once again confirmed the strong trust of Belarusian people in the incumbent president, as well as broad support for his political course and socio-economic reforms,” the statement read.

During the discussion, the two leaders reviewed the development of Uzbek-Belarusian relations in the context of agreements reached during Lukashenko’s visit to Uzbekistan on 7−9 February 2024.

Bilateral trade between the two countries surpassed $700 million in 2024. The statement highlighted the importance of accelerating industrial cooperation projects in various economic sectors, maintaining close business and regional ties, as well as fostering intensive cultural and humanitarian exchanges.

Alexander Lukashenko, who is in power since 1994, secured 86.82% of the votes in the election, marking his seventh term in office.
