Ten citizens of Uzbekistan passed away from counterfeit alcohol poisoning in Turkey, the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul said.

On 14 January, the consulate announced the deaths of five men aged 35−40. The following day, a deceased woman was reported. Later, four more male victims were confirmed.

It was discovered that the alcohol was purchased in Aksaray district of the city. The Consulate General urged Uzbekistan’s nationals to refrain from consuming alcoholic beverages and to exercise caution.

“In any situation that poses a threat to your health, it is recommended to seek immediate medical assistance at the nearest hospital and contact the Consulate General,” the statement noted. The emergency contact number is +905535411717.

On 15 January, Anadolu agency reported that since 1 January, a total of 34 people died in Istanbul due to counterfeit alcohol consumption. According to the Uzbekistan’s Consulate General, two citizens of Turkmenistan involved in selling the illicit alcohol were detained.
