Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Health on 9 January hosted a signing ceremony for grant contracts under Japan’s “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects” program, Japanese embassy’s press service told Gazeta.uz.
The ceremony was attended by minister of health Asilbek Khudayarov, Japanese ambassador Takashi Hattori and representatives of medical institutions from Tashkent and Bukhara region.
Three projects were signed for a total amount of approximately $215,000:
- Purchase of gynecological, endoscopic and arthroscopic equipment for Bukhara branch of the Republican Emergency Medical Aid Center. Grant amount: $111,700.
- Purchase of endoscopic equipment and a surgical aspirator for the Republican Perinatal Center. Grant amount: $75,800.
- Purchase of equipment for the treatment of ear, nose and throat diseases for the Scientific and Practical Medical Center of Pediatric Oncology, Hematology and Immunology. Grant amount: $27,800.
Since 1995, Japan has implemented over 425 projects in Uzbekistan within the healthcare, education and agriculture sectors under the program, with total grants exceeding $28.56 million.
