President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on 23 December received foreign minister of Kazakhstan Yerlan Idrisov, who arrived on a working visit, press service of the President said.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated the leadership and the brotherly people of Kazakhstan on the 25th anniversary of the country’s independence. He stressed that the existing trust and rich Uzbek-Kazakh dialogue corresponds to long-term interests of both countries.

During the meeting, it was noted that the two countries were close neighbours and time-tested partners that are equally interested in the security and stability, sustainable economic and social development and prosperity of each other and the Central Asian region as a whole.

In this context, election of Kazakhstan to the non-permanent UN Security Council membership in 2017−2018, strongly supported by Uzbekistan, opens new opportunities for promoting interests of the Central Asian states on the global level.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Yerlan Idrisov exchanged views on the entire range of Uzbek-Kazakh agenda, particularly in trade and economic, investment, transport and communication fields. Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, as largest trading partners in the region, are ready to deepen and expand relations in this field, they stated.
