Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (parliament) of Uzbekistan passed the law “On countering corruption” in the second reading. The document has to be approved by the Senate and signed by the head of the state to come into force.

The law is aimed at strengthening the trust of citizens, including entrepreneurs, to the state bodies and officials, as well as improving the investment attractiveness of Uzbekistan.

The document is expected to improve the efficiency of anti-corruption measures implemented by the government and NGOs.

The ultimate goal of the law is to create the “atmosphere of intolerance towards corruption” by raising legal awareness and legal culture of the people, as well as its complete eradication of corruption in all areas of life.

Proposal on the law on countering corruption was submitted to the parliament in mid-October as a legislative initiative of the Acting President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
