More than 39,000 visually impaired in Uzbekistan have the right to vote at the upcoming presidential elections on 4 December, according to Society of the Visually Impaired.

“Previously, visually impaired had to rely on others' help to vote. In my case, my son used to put a mark in the voting bulletin,” chairman of the Society of the Visually Impaired Abdukayum Abdunabiev told UzA news agency. “Now we have the opportunity to execute our constitutional right to vote independently.”

Uzbekistan became the first country in the Commonwealth of Independent States to realize this opportunity. In addition to bulletins in braille, various brochures have also been produced for the visually impaired.

According to Central Election Commission, voting bulletins in braille will be available in Uzbek and Russian languages.
