Tashkent zoo administration banned sale of food in plastic package and disposable plastic dishes, as well as toys following numerous accidents, including several deaths of animals.

The latest death case was that of a Nile crocodile in early November. The reptile died after swallowing a toy thrown by a visitor.

“Our animals receive all necessary food, vitamins and mineral additives; each specie has its own diet,” the zoo administration said on its website.

“We value your concerns, however, certain foods should never be given to animals, such as candies, chips, popcorn, fresh bread, etc.,” the statement said.

Last March, the zoo has forbidden to bring food and food products on its territory.
