Long-term observers from the mission of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) arrived in Uzbekistan to participate in monitoring the presidential election campaign.

The members of the mission headed by chief of department of the CIS Executive Committee Yevgeny Sloboda met the chairman of the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan Mirza-Ulugbek Abdusalomov on Friday.

The CIS observers mission headquarters will operate in Tashkent, collecting and analysing data on the electoral process, examining the election legislation and monitoring the media.

The Central Election Commission has so far accredited 90 observers from missions of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE ODIHR), the CIS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)
