Famous Uzbek poet, author of the country’s state anthem Abdulla Oripov died on 5 November in Houston (Texas, USA), where his daughter lives, at the age of 75 after a serious illness.

According to the Foreign Ministry press service, relatives of the poet have decided to bury him in Uzbekistan. The ministry has entrusted the embassy of Uzbekistan in the US to assist the relatives in solving required consular and other issues.

Abdulla Oripov, who was awarded titles Hero of Uzbekistan and National Poet of Uzbekistan, was also known as a public figure, he was a parliamentary deputy and a senator, as well as headed Uzbekistan Writers Union and the country’s Authors' Rights Protection Committee. He translated into Uzbek Dante’s Divine Comedy and works of a number of Russian and Soviet authors.
