United States under secretary of state for political affairs Thomas Shannon will visit Uzbekistan on his first visit to Central Asia, which will take place during October 24−29.

Thomas Shannon will meet senior government officials, as well as business and civil society leaders, US State Department press service said.

He will also visit cultural heritage sites in Samarkand, including the Registan square, and the burial site of the first President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov.

Thomas Shannon’s scheduled talks in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan look forward to strengthen US partnerships with the regional countries through the C5+1 initiative, which is a platform for discussion and joint regional actions on issues of mutual interest.
