Uzbekistan is concerned about the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s 9 September nuclear test, Foreign Ministry’s Jahon news agency said in a statement on Saturday.

The tests are “a flagrant violation of the UN Security Council resolutions and a direct threat to security in the region and the world at large”, the statement reads.

“The Uzbek side calls on Pyongyang to stop provocative actions, which lead to escalation of tensions, and resolve existing contradictions through peaceful diplomatic means,” said the statement.

“As the initiator of the creation in Central Asian zone free of nuclear weapons, Uzbekistan has advocated and continues to advocate for strict compliance with provisions of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and attaches great importance to reducing the threat of its use,” Jahon mentioned.
