Legislative Chamber and Senate of Oliy Majlis (Supreme Assembly) of Uzbekistan reviewed the issue of the temporary imposition of duties and powers of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan during a joint meeting on 8 September, UzA reported.

The meeting started with a minute of silence in memory of the First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Abduganiyevich Karimov.

During the session, the Senate chairman Nigmatilla Yuldoshev came forward with a proposal to temporary assign the President’s duties and powers to Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoyev, taking into account his extensive experience of work in senior positions at state government bodies and respect among the population.

Leaders of political parties, deputies and senators, taking into consideration the need to maintain stability, ensure public safety and order, effectively resolve critical issues of socio-political and socio-economic development in the present situation, supported the proposal of the head of Senate, UzA’s report said.

Chambers of Oliy Majlis passed a joint resolution on temporary imposition of duties and powers of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The Central Election Commission has been recommended to organize presidential elections in full accordance with the law “On elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan”.
