Farewell ceremony with the first President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov took place on Saturday afternoon at the historic Registan Square in the center of Samarkand. National television channels shared scenes from the ceremony.
State, public and religious figures of Uzbekistan, as well as senior representatives of several countries and international organizations arrived in order to participate in the ceremony in the hometown of Islam Karimov.
Presidents of Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan, Prime Ministers of Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus and Georgia, the Iranian Foreign Minister, State Minister of the UAE, CIS Executive Secretary and others were among them.
After the funeral prayers, the mouring procession with the participation of thousands of residents and guests of Samarkand, proceeded to the cemetery Hazrat Khizr, where the First President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov was buried in accordance with Muslim customs.
